Sunday 11 – Saturday 17 October 2026
A week of streams to support the world’s most endangered marine mammal.
For seven days in October, streamers from around the world use their own channels to talk to their audiences about the vaquita. The lineup mixes art, gaming, music, crafts and science, so whatever you like to watch, there’s probably a stream for you. The vaquita is a small, critically endangered porpoise found only in the northern Gulf of California, Mexico, where gillnets set illegally for totoaba keep drowning them, and the 2025 survey saw just 7 to 10.

Kasey Snow
Artist and streamer, founder of the event week
Where this came from
Save The Vaquita Week was Kasey Snow’s idea.
Kasey Snow is an artist who streams on Twitch as KaseySnowArt. In 2025 she organized the first Save The Vaquita Week herself, finding the streamers and building the schedule.
Why Kasey started
“I watched the Baiji go extinct as a kid and was devastated.” The baiji was a freshwater dolphin found only in the Yangtze River system in eastern China. In late 2006, scientists spent six weeks searching its whole range by boat, watching and listening for it, and found none. Fishing nets had most likely killed the last of them, which likely made it the first whale, dolphin or porpoise species wiped out by people.
Then, in 2024, she learned about the vaquita. “I was shocked that this was happening again. I couldn't help as a child, but thought maybe I could do something as an adult to prevent the vaquita from sharing the Baiji's fate.”
How she found the vaquita
It started on her own stream. Kasey hosts a live series called “The Art Gym”, where people study a topic with her and keep each other accountable with their art. One day she picked cetaceans, the group that takes in whales, dolphins and porpoises, and “fell down the porpoise rabbit hole.”
“I was shocked to learn about the vaquita, and surprised I'd never heard of it.” That led to more deep dives, and “what I read about seemed heartbreakingly preventable.”
She searched for vaquita conservation efforts and found an online volunteer form from Porpoise.org, the Porpoise Conservation Society. As she puts it, “the rest is history!”
Why she keeps doing it despite all the work
Before any of this, Kasey taught art at an elementary school, and she doesn’t think anything compares: “nothing will ever be more work than that job!” She says the nonstop life of a teacher, with its school events, grant writing and more than 500 kids to keep learning, prepared her for this. “switch out a few words, and you have conservation work!”
She believes education can make a difference. “I think we change the world through conversation and relationships. ‘Save the Vaquita Week’ is just me trying to do my part and inviting others to join me!”
She still organizes the event week, with support from two Canadian organizations, and you can watch her draw on her channels below.

Save The Vaquita Week comes shortly after International Save the Vaquita Day, which ¡VIVA Vaquita!, a coalition of non-profit organizations from around the world, organizes every year. Its members, Porpoise.org among them, bring scientists, educators and conservationists together around shared goals. Its members work to raise awareness, carry out research and education, and promote a healthy Upper Gulf of California, aiming to save the vaquita while providing long-term benefits to the fishermen and residents around the Gulf.
Other ways to join in
Two of these don’t need a channel.
-
Help in a chat
Be the friendly vaquita guide in a streamer’s chat during their session, answering viewers’ questions without ever going on camera.
Be an ambassador -
Hear when it’s time to act
Supporters get news about the vaquita and a heads-up when there’s a petition to sign or a letter to send, about six emails a year in all.
